Schild's IGA MarketPlace #1 is a locally owned, "Hometown Proud" supermarket. That means we're deeply committed to being more than just a great grocery store.
It means we strive every day to make a difference in our community.

As a member of Independent Grocers Alliance, a worldwide network of family oriented retailers, we share in the belief that "a good grocery store isn't a sprawling, impersonal example of cookie cutter commerce, but a community hub owned and operated by the very people who know the area best—the citizens." We were named IGA retailer of the year in 2001, and in 2010 we received the Pinnacle Award for best independent operator in the State of Ohio. We recently switched Wholesalers to MDI of North Carolina. MDI is a low cost operator and recently chosen the best food distributor in America, so look for savings throughout the store. Our Fuel links program offers the customers huge savings at the fuel pumps.

IGA was founded in 1926 by Frank Grimes, a Chicago accountant who specialized in auditing the books of wholesale grocers. His goal was to develop a network of independent grocers to compete with the burgeoning chains. Along with five associates—Gene Flack, Louis Groebe, W. K. Hunter, H. V. Swenson, and William Thompson—Grimes developed IGA's strategy to capitalize on the strengths of chain stores while creating opportunities for individuals to own and operate an independent business.

Today, IGA is the world's largest voluntary supermarket network, with a presence in 45 countries.
